GOAL Score the most points by the time the deck runs out!
SETUP Shuffle the deck. Deal 7 cards to each player. Place deck facedown between players. Player who most recently collected shells goes first. Points are only scored from those pairs placed faceup on the table in front of you, not from remaining cards in your hand. Note: Blackbeard and “X” cards are negative points.
THE ASK
- DRAW: Player draws from the deck or discard options to begin each turn with 7 cards. On the first turn, players will not draw new cards as they will already have 7.
- DISCARD: After drawing, if a player gets an “X” card they must immediately place it face up in front of them, then discard another card from their hand faceup in the discard pile. Players should place all currently matching pairs face up into their own points collection and continue onto EXPLORE.
-
EXPLORE: Player begins the search for matching pairs.
The player asks any other player for a card from a specific category. It does not need to be a category in their hand already, as they may be searching for a SOUND TO SEA BONUS. For example: “Do you have a landmark?” or “Do you have a plant?” or “Do you have a Sound to Sea card?”. If the player has the requested card they must deliver it face down. If they do not have a card in the requested category, they can pass Blackbeard face down to give an opponent -10 points.
If they do not have a card in the requested category or a Blackbeard card, they must pass a different card of their choosing. - PAIR: When the player does complete a matched pair, they should place it face up, and continue the turn by taking a card from the deck, the available discard options, or by asking any player for a card from a specific category.
- NEXT: The turn is over when a player cannot place a match faceup on the table.
ANYTIME a player gets an “X” card - including at the very beginning of the game when each player gets 7 cards to start the game - they must immediately place it face up in front of them, then discard another card from their hand face up in the discard pile. 8 “X” cards = 8 possible discard options. The discard pile is not stacked. A player can select any card from the discard options. If the player has a match after selecting a card from the discard pile they must place it face up in front of them. It is not required that the selected discard create an immediate match. It can be part of your overall strategy to collect a pair from each category.
ARGHH Blackbeard cards work as negative point values and cannot be paired.
GAME END Once the deck runs out, continue play until one player has no cards left in their hand. Each player only counts the points already on the table, and not the positive value cards in their hand. The only exceptions are the 2 Blackbeard cards which would remain in the hand of a player or players; each will be counted -10. The total will include each card point value both positive and negative points. For example, a matching pair of two +1 Wildlife Sea Turtle cards will yield 2 points.
SOUND TO SEA BONUS Collect at least one pair from each of the five categories to add 15 BONUS points to your total score. Note: Only 2 options for this bonus play are possible because there are only 2 special SOUND TO SEA pairs—each pair includes an image of the sunset on the sound and an ocean wave in the sea.
SOUND TO SEA Outer Banks Memory Game
This version uses your Sound to Sea game cards.
Mix up all the cards and place face down on the table. Turn up two cards to find a matching pair. If you find a pair your turn continues until you miss. You should include Xs and Blackbeard in this classic matching contest.
The winner is the person with the most matching pairs.
Another option is to count the points for each matched pair. The winner would be ther person with the most points at the end of the game.
*If you choose to count points you can decide to include Blackbeard and the X cards (resulting in negative points for the person who acciedntly selects those matched cards) or if you prefer, you can simply omit Blackbeard and the X cards in this classic memory game play.
